I want to take the time to make a separate
article from our regular forecasted material and walkthroughs that we have
produced thus far. It isn’t because of the lack of content or material because
we have only scratched the surface and covered roughly half of the current
focal points in the guide at this time. The image above shows a simple but enlightening
infographic document detailing the levels attained in the skills and crafts we
have developed together. With that being said, let us continue to the topic at
hand.
There is no easy way to say this, but New
World as an MMO or rather as a community driven game is failing and it is not
the fault of the players. Secretive patches, major changes without notice, and
lack of documentation on the company’s part have reduced the transparency the
Amazon Games had once been able to boast proudly of is no more. They have
single-handedly self-imploded and continue to make critical mistakes in both
their technical decision-making and the public relations within their very own
community. Let’s move on to the statistics found below.
We can see that within the first month’s
release that New World was able to peak with a grand total of over 900,000
players during their busier hours. That’s almost one million players all
actively logging in to enjoy their game. Sadly, you can see the drop offs
occurring with each major patch. The first of which was the end of October where
the server populations had dropped nearly 60% of their total at only 404,438
active players during their peak hours. And now we can see that the latest
patch has again dropped the peak activity down to only 177,572.
These drop offs are occurring systematically
with each major patch release and show horrendous drops in the public’s
interest. The first being about 60% and the second drop was over 40% of the
remaining. This is a loss of nearly 80% of New World’s entire player base abandoning
the game in less than a single quarter. In terms of business metrics, this
would be an absolute failure of a product and calls for a trip back to the “drawing
board” because one more bad patch is standing between the company and the loss
of their remaining player base.
What is more depressing is that a quick
google search after viewing the Steam Charts shows recent articles and the media
coverage is also concerned. The first three articles speak about the problems
of “bots” or AI controlled player characters to perform mundane and repetitive
tasks. These bots are notorious in online games and cause damage to both the
in-game economy as well as the mental health of the average or casual player.
The other two articles that appear in this image show a concern for Amazon
Games potentially not recovering from this fall and another blurb about Amazon
Game moderators handing out currency for the game in random increments to
random players causing continuous outrage among the player base yet again.
I know this article is out of the ordinary
for what I have promised to cover here, but I felt that it was necessary as
both a professional writer in practice as well as a consumer. The game is not
in a good state or going in a good direction and it shows in both their
practices and lack of professionalism. The game has recently been put on sale
for 25% off and I cannot stress it enough that potentially future players
should sit back and not waste their money on a broken product. Give Amazon
Games time to fix their mess and correct the issues they have created before
stepping aboard a sinking ship. With that being said, I wish you a good day and
I hope you enjoyed your holiday!
